I am a Reiki 3 Master Practitioner in Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki, which was introduced by Mikao Usui in the mid 20th Century. Originating from Japan, Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a technique to help stress reduction and relaxation. It also promotes healing by using a hands-on approach to help our 'life force energy' or 'chi' to flow. When we become stressed, this can lower our chi energy and make us feel unwell and more stressed.
The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki s essentially means "spiritually guided life force energy."
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects including relaxation and well-being.
Before a Treatment
There is no need to prepare before you arrive for your treatment. On arrival your practitioner will go through an Information Sheet which includes questions about your health and general wellbeing which you will be asked to sign. Your practitioner will then talk to you about setting your intention of how you would like to the energy to support you so, for example, you may want the energy to support you in managing stress, or healing etc. If you are not sure how to do this, your practitioner will help you or they can set one for you. You can use the energy for any purpose, so long as it's supporting you and being used for positive purposes.
During a Treatment
After Information gathering you will be asked to lie on the couch, on your back, fully clothed, although you may take your shoes off if you wish. You will have a pillow for your head and a bolster to go under your knees for your comfort. A blanket will be placed on top of you and you can close your eyes at this stage. Your practitioner will take you through a very short breathing meditation to help you relax before placing their hands on your body in non-intrusive positions, working their way from your head down to your feet. Once complete, you will be asked to turn over, and the practitioner will work down the back of your body.
If, however, you have fallen deeply asleep and the practitioner cannot wake you, they may well work down the front again.
If you prefer to stay on your back throughout the session, then please let the practitioner know so they can accommodate this.
If you are at all worried about where the practitioner will place there hands, they will be happy to show before you get on the couch.
If there if is anywhere you would prefer not to be touched, please say, so the practitioner can work 'hands-off' in that area.
A treatment often feels like a wonderful warmth that flows through and around you, but it can feel differently for everyone. You may feel heat from the practitioners hands, or a tingling sensation. But just relax and enjoy the gentle music that will be playing throughout your session.
Reiki is wonderful therapy for stress reduction that usually brings about a deep sense of relaxation and allows the client to start their own healing process.
After a Treatment
When the treatment is complete the practitioner will gently rub your shoulder to let you know they are finished. You can then bring yourself round to full wakefulness and, taking it slowly, sit up. Your practitioner will then go through any aftercare and give you an aftercare sheet.
